NvAA - Assembly Bill 293

March 05, 2025 9:36 AM | Anonymous

We’re excited to announce that the Nevada Aviation Association’s Bill Draft Request (BDR) to establish the Governor’s Office of Aerospace has officially been introduced as Assembly Bill 293 (AB293). The bill has been read into the record and assigned to the Government Affairs Committee.

AB293 is sponsored by Assemblymember Gregory S. Koenig (R) (District 38), Assistant Minority Floor Leader North, and we’re pleased to share that Assemblyman Ruben D’Silva (D) (District 28) has joined as a co-sponsor. D'Silva is a high school history teacher with strong ties to the Rancho High School Academy of Aviation. Assemblyman D’Silva is a passionate advocate for this legislation and the future of aerospace in Nevada.

The Future of Aviation in Nevada is Now

This year’s NvAA Conference theme—“The Future of Aviation in Nevada is Now”—perfectly aligns with the urgency of this moment. Nevada’s aviation industry stands at a critical inflection point, and its future will significantly impact the state’s economy. As industry leaders, we must take an active role in shaping the conversation and ensuring a strong aviation infrastructure, including the Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport (SNSA) and improved air service connectivity between Nevada’s economic centers. If we don’t lead this effort, someone else will—and a lack of vision could stall our economic growth for years to come.

Next Steps & How You Can Help

To build momentum for AB293, we’re hosting a virtual call next week to discuss the bill in detail and develop an FAQ one-sheet. This will help you effectively advocate for the bill with local businesses, government officials, and your state assemblymember and senator. Please review the bill beforehand, jot down any questions, and join us as we work through them together.

Three-Pronged Strategy for Success

We need a strong, coordinated effort to move AB293 forward. Here’s how you can help:

1. Educate Local Legislators

  • Speak with your local assemblymember’s and senator’s staff to introduce them to AB293.
  • Explain its importance to Nevada’s economy and the future of aviation.

2. Schedule a Legislative Visit

  • Set up a meeting to visit your assemblymember and senator in Carson City before the NvAA Conference on March 31st.
  • Personal engagement is key to building support.

3. Gather Letters of Support

  • Secure endorsements from local businesses, city and county officials, and other stakeholders.
  • We are working with our legislative committee and our lobbyist, Black & Wadhams, to draft a template letter for supporters.
